Go read this site, right now.

I haven't been able to post any of the things that I've been meaning to post for the last few days. I came down with what can only be pneumonic plague about six hours before the Super Bowl, and I still haven't stopped coughing. Seriously: right now, I look and sound like one of those 90-year-old smokers who checks for little black shreds of lung in his handkerchief every five minutes.

If you need something to keep you occupied in the meantime, though, I found a great Pirates blog. I want to steal everything on it. Decent writing, solid logic, nice range of topics. 16 good-length posts in three weeks... with a grand total of three comments. That's just not right.

Hyzdu HQ. Go to it.

Glad you enjoy it. I just wish I had more readers, so I could try and get you a few more page views. You deserve a bigger audience.

Thanks for the tip, Vlad. Mike, this is a terrific read, and I have just bookmarked it. It will now become part of my daily baseball reading.

Yep, I like Hyzdu HQ a lot, as well. I have a good Hyzdu story, BTW. Several years ago I was watching a Louisville Bats game at Slugger Field, and the opponent was the BoSox AAA affiliate. Hyzdu was playing for them at the time, and I noticed him in the on-deck circle. I was surprised to see him, because I didn't know what had become of him after he left the Pirates.

Anyway, I called out to him and said something like, "Hey Adam, you did a great job for us in Pittsburgh, thanks!". He stopped his warmup swings long enough to give me a thumbs up, then went back to swinging.

BTW, Hyzdu was the Next Big Thing at the same Cincinnati high school that produced Ken Griffey, Jr. He definitely had serious power and he had some big moments for us while he was here. I suppose he was ultimately the quintessential, four-A, minor league legend ballplayer, but I always thought he could have been useful and should have lasted longer in the bigs as a platoon slugger and bench player. He sure could crush a fastball, that's for sure.

I happened to be in town for a coupke of games a few years ago when he went on a rampage against the Cardinals and Reds. What a show that was.

That is a great Hyzdu story. I am sure many have similar stories as that was the type of player he was. I agree that under the right circumstances, he could have been an excellent bench player for some time. Unfortunately his turn came a little late in his career.
